Terrible Tuesdays!

Dishwasher broke over the weekend, and now spends its days making strange noises and randomly trying to turn itself on but not actually working (which, come to think of it, is not so different from what I do all day.) But this means that I have to work from home while I wait for the repair guy to show up "any time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m." Who are these repair divas anyway, that they can't even be nailed down to the customary (yet still wholly unacceptable if you ask me) 4-hour window popularized by Cable? And what with the new appliances that have no knobs or dials or handles? The popularization of "touch panels" ensures that there is nothing to jiggle, finagle, or fine-tune on your own. It's not an ATM. It's a g/d dishwasher! But I have no choice but to call the Very Expensive Repair Service to tell you "We'll have to order a part. That'll be $99 for my visit, plus $283 for the part, plus $99 for follow, and an estimate of $137 for labor. Plus tax. Gee, I forgot the lube. Mind if I just bareback?"
In other news: Well, hello to period #2. Time to reschedule that HSG that I-- oops-- totally forgot about going to last time. It's good were doing this planning a year out-- by the time we get this ship sailin' I might actually be packed.
I think a lot about words (in case my last entry didn't prove that point.) I am thinking of starting an "on language" feature (with a kick-in-the-a*s to William Safire in resentful acknowledgment of his claim to the title.) Word of today: echolalia. Could there be a more perfect word to describe the compulsive need to mimic another person's speech? It combines the word echo and redundantly references its own meaning ("-lalia"-- la-di-dah!). How precisely perfect!

update: The "Save As Draft" function? Really good idea. The last forty minutes of well-edited ranting? Gone. My brilliant take on Palin? Gone. My insurance woes (eff you, GHI!)? Gone. My worry about work maternity policies? Still here, unfortunately, but the brilliantly worded postlet? Gone, gone gone.

I will take this as a sign to get to work fer reelz.

UPDATE #2 Rat B@st@rds at GE apparently found the 9 hour window too tight for their GAINT @SSHOLE diva technicians, and have announced that they're not coming today.
